How do you attract Teen Readers to your library?

I just did a presentation May 5, 2007 at the SLMS conference in NY. I have uploaded my Powerpoint and will provide any other materials requested. Here was the description of the session:

How can we get teenagers to read? This session will provide ideas on how to promote literacy in your library. Ideas such as the Online Teen Book Club, library bookblogs, and book talks will be explored. Teacher book clubs will also be mentioned.

Please feel free to add any and all ideas you might have! June Keuhn.

Here's an idea by Christine Boardman Moen that I read in the May 2007 edition of Book Links.  It is called "Speed Booking".  It is like speed dating only with books.  Each student selects a book they really like.  They write a book review about the book (perhaps in writing workshop in the classroom), then prepare  a 3 minute or so  oral talk about the book.  Students  pair up.  the bell rings and  one student tells about their favorite book.  After 3 minutes, the other student tells about the book they read.  They can ask each other questions.  When time is up, they move to the next  student and begin again.  At the end of the session, students will have a list of books that they might like to read!  I think this would be fun to do as a collaboration with a classroom teacher and librarian! -Loretta Johnson.
